GRANTS FOR MICRO, SMALL, AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES

Helvetas supports Ukraine’s recovery by providing targeted grants to micro-entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals, helping them start, restore, or expand their businesses in war-affected regions. The program focuses on practical, results-oriented assistance that stimulates regional economic activity and job creation.

So far, 330 entrepreneurs — including internally displaced persons, women, and other vulnerable groups — have received support to purchase equipment, restart production, or diversify services. These small enterprises contribute directly to local value chains, strengthening supply networks and building community-level economic resilience.

Recognizing the specific challenges of doing business during wartime, Helvetas also provides access to knowledge and institutional support for local enterprises. In Kharkiv, this approach has already proven effective: Helvetas has delivered over 1,800 consultations for entrepreneurs through the Kharkiv Business Hub, helping them adapt operations, retain jobs, and reorient production. Thanks to cooperation with local authorities and business associations, this approach has been scaled to six municipal administrative service centers, expanding access to business support across the region.

Building a Sustainable Business Ecosystem

Helvetas’ approach goes beyond one-time financial aid. By working closely with business associations, local authorities, and employment institutions, the organization helps integrate microbusinesses into regional development strategies and markets. This coordination ensures that each grant supports not only individual entrepreneurs but also contributes to the systemic recovery of local economies — turning short-term assistance into sustainable economic capacity.

By empowering small entrepreneurs to operate and grow within this ecosystem, Helvetas strengthens Ukraine’s economic self-reliance and lays the foundation for a more resilient and inclusive private sector.
