Strengthening Local Governance      for Empowered Citizens

Albania is decentralizing at a breathtaking pace. The local governments and citizens have a hard time trying to keep up with these changes. The “Bashki te Forta” project enables them to introduce practices of local governance that best meet their needs.

Our Topics

Education and Vocational Skills

Lack of education perpetuates inequality because poor countries cannot compete economically without a skilled workforce.

Private Sector Development

Youth need access to reliable, fairly paid jobs to break the cycle of poverty. Helvetas creates partnerships and promotes policies that build more inclusive economies.

Voice, Inclusion & Cohesion

In many countries where we work, men and women are unable to claim their rights and participate actively in decision-making processes.

Gender & Social Equity

Helvetas makes sure that our work actively and meaningfully includes and supports the most disadvantaged groups.

Learning & Innovation

Building the capacities of staff and partners to effectively share what they know, to learn together and create effective solutions is crucial to our success.

Youth

Young people are a tremendous asset, but also a possible threat when denied access to labor markets, services and decision-making. Almost every second unemployed person is aged between 15 and 24.

Our work in the countries

In addition to the countries listed below, we implement the RECONOMY program for the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), spanning 12 countries of Eastern Europe, Southern Caucasus and Western Balkans.
