In Uzbekistan, significant changes have occurred in vocational education, once compulsory but now optional and fee-based. Previously, over a million students were enrolled, but now only 23.2% participate. Helvetas is supporting Uzbekistan with reforms to improve people's employability and that young people find work.

Despite efforts to streamline the system, fragmentation persists, posing challenges. The VET4UZ project supports ongoing reforms, aiming to enhance youth employability and secure better jobs. Through trainings, surveys, and recommendations Helvetas promotes cooperation between state entities and the private sector. The focus is on bridging the gap between skills taught and those demanded by the job market, fostering work-based learning, and improving the overall effectiveness of vocational education. 

The country programme in Uzbekistan is co-funded by the SDC programme contribution.
