We begin by stating the obvious: as development practitioners, we do not work alone. We manage and implement projects together with and through different partners.

Two years ago, we started a learning expedition on how monitoring and results measurement helps projects know what works and what does not work. For this, we approached 15 projects implemented by Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe.

Five years ago, we decided to document our understanding and experiences of financial inclusion in the form of a book. The idea was conceived in a small restaurant in one of the backroads around Gulshan. Insulated from the active streets, it is easy to forget you are in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.
