Can there truly be security when people go hungry?
This is the question at the heart of this year’s Global Hunger Index. Food security is fundamental to people’s health, livelihoods and prospects for the future. When conflict, extreme weather or economic shocks disrupt daily life, the ability to access food and earn a living often becomes the most urgent concern.
The report shows that food insecurity is more than a consequence of crisis. It can also deepen existing vulnerabilities, weaken coping capacities and put further pressure on communities and institutions. In fragile contexts, disrupted production, markets, supply chains and access to assistance can make recovery even more difficult.
The event will explore how hunger, insecurity and resilience are connected. Drawing on global findings and regional perspectives, it will discuss what is needed to strengthen food systems, protect livelihoods and ensure that efforts to reduce hunger also contribute to more stable and peaceful societies.
