Helvetas Hands Over a Vehicle to a GWMP Project Partner

This support represents an important contribution to strengthening the institutional capacity of HELVETAS’ national partners and contributes to achieving the overall goal of effective groundwater management in Tajikistan for the benefit of present and future generations

On 2 June 2026, the Branch of the Association “HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation” in Tajikistan, within the framework of strategic cooperation with the Institute of Water Problems, Hydropower and Ecology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan (IWPHE), handed over a vehicle for office use and field research activities. This initiative was made possible through the Groundwater Management Project in Sughd Region (GWMP), implemented by HELVETAS with financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The handover ceremony was attended by the Director of the Institute of Water Problems, Hydropower and Ecology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan, Dr. Aminjon Gulakhmadzoda, who emphasized the importance of this support for further strengthening the Institute’s research activities and its effective participation in the implementation of GWMP activities.

IWPHE is one of the key national partners of the GWMP. Its experts provide scientific and technical support in improving groundwater management policies, developing the legal and regulatory framework, and facilitating the National Dialogue on effective groundwater governance.

This technical support will ensure the mobility of the Institute’s specialists and expand opportunities for conducting regular field research, monitoring activities, and expert missions in Sughd Region. The lack of a dedicated vehicle had previously significantly limited the Institute’s access to research sites and reduced the effectiveness of its participation in scientific and field-based activities.

This support represents an important contribution to strengthening the institutional capacity of HELVETAS’ national partners and contributes to achieving the overall goal of effective groundwater management in Tajikistan for the benefit of present and future generations.
