The provincial government of Cabo Delgado, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Helvetas Mozambique, and other partners from the private sector and civil society met at the end of March during the Supervisory Committee of the Health Promotion Support Project in Cabo Delgado. The meeting aimed, among other objectives, to review the project’s annual report and to align implementation strategies and long-term sustainability actions.

During the opening session, the representative of the Embassy of Switzerland in Mozambique, Philippe Puyo, highlighted the project’s achievements, reflected in the development of “infrastructure, equipment, and strengthened services,” as well as in “changes in institutional practices, improved local management capacity, and increasing community ownership of issues related to health, water, and sanitation.” Puyo also confirmed an extension of the project to ensure the completion of ongoing water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure works.

For his part, the Governor of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, reaffirmed “the commitment to maintain and preserve the infrastructure built, particularly water supply systems, ensuring their durability and enabling future investments in priority areas.

In 2025, 1.423 latrines and 406 bathrooms for menstrual hygiene management were constructed, benefiting just over 7.000 people (around 3.500 women). Between 2022 and 2025, the incidence of diarrhoea and child mortality (among children under five) decreased significantly—from 7.2% to 2.1% and from 2.2% to 1.5%, respectively. Health facility coverage expanded by 90%, and 39 WASH-FIT teams were established. The project also supported the acquisition and maintenance of equipment, IT resources, a mobile communication unit, educational and hygiene materials, and the training of 42 artisans and seven technicians in water infrastructure maintenance.
