The Oratta program, implemented by Helvetas Mozambique has transformed hygiene conditions in schools by building 10 modern sanitation facilities across Erati and Chiure districts. This initiative benefits 5.572 students (2.939 boys and 2.614) and 87 teachers, ensuring safer, more private, and gender-sensitive spaces that promote menstrual hygiene and reduce health risks.
Previously, schools relied on temporary latrines that collapsed during rainy seasons or had insufficient facilities for high attendance. Now, six new blocks in Erati (Namige and Impoge) and four in Chiure (Lusaka and Coqueiros) comply with Blue School standards, featuring separate facilities for boys and girls, washing areas for girls, and dedicated spaces for teachers.
