On 10 September, the Cabo Delgado Health Promotion Project (CDHPP) held an advocacy meeting to reflect on the mechanisms for the institutionalization of Direct Support for Healthcare Facilities (HCF) in Cabo Delgado. The meeting, held in Cabo Delgado province, was chaired by Álvaro Floriano, Director of the Governor's Office in that region, and was attended by representatives of the Provincial Directorates for Health, Planning and Finance, Public Works and Housing and Education. The meeting also intended to learn experiences and lessons from the education sector, which has been implementing a similar approach since 2003 with funds from the World Bank.
The Direct Support to HCF approach consists of and advocates for the transfer of funds from the Mozambican government directly to community HCF in order to enable minor repairs and purchase the necessary products and materials to provide quality healthcare services. The CDHPP is funded by the Swiss Cooperation and co-implemented by HELVETAS Mozambique.
