Robert Mardini
Since September 1, 2024, Robert Mardini has been CEO of Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), Switzerland's largest university hospital. HUGS is a leading institution in healthcare, research, and training, and has more than 13,000 employees and an annual budget of 2.5 billion Swiss francs. At the helm of this large organization, Robert Mardini oversees its strategy and development, working closely with the Board of Directors, political authorities, and partners in the healthcare system.
Prior to HUG, he headed the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) from 2020 to 2024, overseeing its humanitarian operations in more than 100 countries with 20,000 employees.
After graduating from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) with a degree in civil and hydraulic engineering, he joined the ICRC in 1997 as an engineer and went on to hold senior positions, including Deputy Director General, Regional Director for the Near and Middle East, and Head of Delegation to the UN.
He has received several awards, including the EPFL Alumni Award in 2020, and was elected to the SATW in 2021. He is also a member of the Geneva Diplomatic Club, the EPFL Strategic Advisory Board, and Executive in Residence at IMD. A Swiss and Lebanese national, he is married and has two daughters.
