Jane Carter, DPhil (Oxon)

Jane Carter holds a doctorate in rural development forestry and a first class honors degree in agricultural and forest sciences - both from the University of Oxford, UK. With over 35 years of professional experience and a strong commitment to socially inclusive, sustainable development, she combines a practical ground-based perspective with a strategic, global outlook. Jane has lived and worked in Sri Lanka, India and Nepal - conducting field research, managing projects and programs, and providing advisory inputs. She has also undertaken short term advisory assignments in many countries of Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe – particularly Bangladesh, Bhutan, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine. Jane joined Intercooperation in 1997 and continued to work for Helvetas subsequent to the merger, most recently as Director, Programme Development for Helvetas Nepal (April 2017 to September 2020). In her current position as Senior Advisor, Natural Resource Governance, Jane is responsible for developing the forestry, biodiversity and landscape management portfolio and represents Helvetas as a partner in the Rights and Resources Initiative.
