The National Interagency Dialogue creates a space for ongoing dialogue, knowledge and experience sharing, as well as the joint development of practical solutions

On 3 September 2026, the second National Interagency Dialogue on Groundwater Management was in Dushanbe, jointly with the Institute of Water Problems, Hydropower and Ecology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan. The dialogue was organized within the framework of the Groundwater Management Project in Sughd Region of Tajikistan (GWMP), implemented by HELVETAS Tajikistan with financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The dialogue brought together representatives of government authorities, relevant institutions, the scientific community, development partners and international experts to discuss the current state, challenges and prospects for sustainable groundwater management in Sughd Region.

Particular attention during the dialogue was given to the experience of Uzbekistan. A study visit organized within the framework of the GWMP enabled participants to observe regional approaches to groundwater management in practice and discuss opportunities for adapting these approaches to the conditions of Tajikistan, particularly Sughd Region.

The National Interagency Dialogue became the first specialized national platform dedicated to groundwater management issues. Its organization creates a space for ongoing dialogue, knowledge and experience sharing, as well as the joint development of practical solutions.
