A Step Towards Smart Water Management in Spitamen

Modern Technologies for Efficient Water Resource Management on the Shavkat Canal

As part of Tajikistan’s national drive toward digital innovation and sustainable development, a modern hydrological monitoring station has been installed on an on-farm canal managed by the enlarged Water Users Association (WUA) "Boboeva" in Spitamen District.

The initiative was implemented under the National Water Resources Management Project (NWRM), funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by a consortium led by Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation and ACTED in the Tajik section of the Syr Darya River Basin.

Technology in Action

The newly installed hydropost is equipped with a modern Canadian-made Pulsar flow meter, enabling accurate and reliable water measurement.

Key features include:

  • Precise water accounting through real-time flow measurement.
  • Autonomous operation powered by solar panels and rechargeable batteries, ensuring continuous monitoring day and night.
  • Transparent data access, allowing both the Water Users Association and the District Department of Land Reclamation and Irrigation to remotely monitor water flows in real time.
  • Supporting Fair and Efficient Water Distribution

Digitalization of water measurement helps eliminate inaccuracies, improve transparency, and support equitable water distribution among users. Real-time data also strengthens decision-making and enhances the overall efficiency of irrigation system management.

This investment represents a practical step toward the sustainable and responsible use of one of the region’s most valuable resources: water.
