At the end of last May, Helvetas submitted to the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC) the documentation required for the formalization and establishment of the Chipanje Chetu Community Conservation Area, for subsequent referral to the Council of Ministers for review. This action represents a significant step forward in the process of institutionalizing this community conservation initiative in Niassa Province.
The submission is part of the Chipanje Chetu Community Governance project, implemented by Helvetas with funding from the World Bank through the Biodiversity Conservation Foundation (Biofund). The initiative is taking place in the district of Sanga, covering the administrative posts of Matchedje and Macaloge, and involving five communities: Maumbica, Lilumba, Nova Madeira, Matchedge, and Segundo Congresso.
Among the project’s key actions is the transformation of the current Chipanje Chetu program into a formally recognized Community Conservation Area, with the aim of strengthening the sustainable management of natural resources and expanding socioeconomic benefits for local communities.
The document submitted includes two attachments, in both hard copy and electronic formats, which describe in detail all the documents comprising the file, constituting integral and binding elements for the processing and formalization of the new conservation area.
