Consultant for Documentation of Biochar Case Study

Helvetas Vietnam is seeking a qualified consultant to document and analyze biochar-based circular economy solutions developed under the EU-funded project “Circular Economy Cocoa: From Bean to Bar” (EU-Cocoa Project), implemented within the framework of the EU SWITCH-Asia Programme.

Since 2024, the project has demonstrated biochar production from agricultural by-products using pyrolysis and gasification technologies across multiple sites in Vietnam, alongside practical applications of biochar-based soil improvement formulas. These solutions aim to enhance resource efficiency, improve farmer livelihoods, promote soil health, and promote environmental sustainability within the cocoa and agri-food sectors.

The assignment aims to produce a formative, evidence-based case study that systematically documents the applied technical solutions, assesses preliminary economic, social, and environmental benefits, captures user feedback from farmers, cooperatives, and enterprises, and identifies key lessons, limitations, and conditions for sustainable operation and scaling. The outputs will support learning, replication, communication, and future policy dialogue.

The consultancy is expected to be completed within a maximum of 15 working days in March 2026 and will include desk review, limited field visits, stakeholder interviews, analysis, and reporting.
