Local Resilience
With the support of the Embassy of Switzerland, the CALL Consortium, comprising nine Swiss NGOs and 18 local partners, works together across 30 districts of Bangladesh to empower two million marginalised and local people. The initiative aims to strengthen community capacity for disaster management and climate resilience, enhance local economies, and share knowledge gained from local to international levels.
The impacts of climate change are already being felt in Bangladesh, particularly in the country's vulnerable coastal and riverine areas. These challenges are compounded by a lack of access to climate-smart livelihoods, inadequate infrastructure, and limited disaster preparedness. CALL aims to build local resilience through community-driven solutions and by strengthening the capacity of local systems to manage climate and disaster risks.
Despite significant progress in improving health and education, climate change continues to exacerbate existing vulnerabilities. At present, marginalised communities, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities, are disproportionately affected. CALL addresses these challenges by engaging these groups in climate action and ensuring their voices are heard in local governance and decision-making.
