For our US team based in Washington, DC we are looking for a Market Systems Resilience Adviser to serve on a five-year USAID Market Systems and Partnerships project. The purpose of the MSP is to advance learning and good practice on market systems development and private sector engagement within USAID (Washington and Missions), USAID partners, and beyond. This will be achieved by providing and improving upon the evidence, capacity, tools, technical assistance, and/or services required to design, implement, monitor, and/or evaluate activities that lead to inclusive and resilient agriculture-led economic growth, improved food security and nutrition, and increased incomes for the poor.
MSP will help USAID Missions and Operating Units operationalize USAID’s private engagement policy and advance their development objectives on an on-demand basis.
This position is contingent upon the successful award of the project and approval by USAID.
Providing analytical and other services in support of design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of market systems and private sector engagement activities to USAID Missions or Operating Units in the following areas:
Building capacity to design, implement, monitor, evaluate, and learn from market systems and private sector engagement activities, using a variety of methods that may include training, guidance notes, etc.
Providing technical support in the field of effective private sector partnership development and management, with specific focus on developing and managing new partnerships that utilize a pay-for-results approaches.
Identifying promising inclusive business models; utilizing effective and/or innovative mechanisms for private sector engagement including, but not limited to results-based financing mechanisms.
Providing guidance on co-creating and co-investing in new, innovative and inclusive private sector partnerships that create sustainable impact.
Master’s degree in economics, business management, development studies, agricultural economics or other relevant studies. A PhD or post-graduate studies related to the thematic domain are an asset.
At least 8 years of progressive responsibility analyzing, designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating market systems development activities in the fields of market resilience, market inclusion and public-private partnership for USAID or other donor-funded development programs.
Applied knowledge and strong familiarity with market system development approaches for pro-poor economic development; excellent knowledge of and experience in agricultural market systems and value chain development;
Considerable experience in private sector partnership development and management with specific focus on pay-for-results approaches.
Experience in capacity development and facilitation; training skills.
Excellent advisory skills, intercultural and gender sensitivity.
Strong organizational, writing, and communications skills.
Ability to coordinate well with personnel within and outside the project, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
Must be fluent in written and oral English. Knowledge of French and Spanish is an asset.
