During last September [2025], 10 new cooperatives and smallholder farmers associations in the districts of Meconta, Ribàué, and Malema, in the province of Nampula, have been trained on organic production using Effective Microorganisms (EM1) to ensure increased production and productivity, as well as to strengthen pest and disease control, which systematically cause high losses to smallholder farmers. In addition to the training promoted by the AMCANE (Peanuts, Chestnuts, and Sustainable Business) project implemented by Helvetas Mozambique, funded by Liechtensteinischer Entwicklungsdienst (LED), the cooperatives have also engaged with local agricultural service providers, which has facilitated producers' access to agricultural inputs, climate information, and marketing opportunities.
A total of 8,500 farmers organized into 65 cooperatives have benefited from training on organic production (including 2,000 through agricultural institutes) since the project was launched in 2018.
