Farmers, government representatives, the private sector, and partner organizations gathered on December 12 in Nampula to discuss certification, inputs, and processing of organic products for local and international markets.
The meeting, organized by the AMCANE project (Peanut, Cashew, and Sustainable Small Businesses) implemented by Helvetas Mozambique, aimed to share results achieved in promoting organic agriculture and strengthen market linkages for organic and sustainable products.
During the event, representatives from companies and organizations involved in promoting organic agriculture (production, processing, and marketing), namely Aflalivre, Good Trade, Permacashew, COSEBO (Consultancy and Services Bonifácio), and Helvetas Mozambique, shared experiences on organic production, especially in northern Mozambique, processing and certification, aflatoxin control strategies, and market access.
The seminar, held in a hybrid format, included thematic panels, debates, and testimonies from farmers cooperatives, reinforcing the importance of sustainable agriculture for food and nutritional security and income generation.
Funded by the Liechtenstein Development Service, the AMCANE project, now in its final phase (started in 2018), provides technical assistance, promotes lobbying actions, and campaigns to influence policies and practices in the agricultural sector, ensuring the sustainability of the changes achieved.
