Effective participation and transparency in local governance processes for improved and sustainable service delivery in the water and sanitation sector.
The Governance, Water and Sanitation Program (PROGOAS) supports local governments in the planning and accountability cycle, and in the water and sanitation domain oriented towards improved service provision.
The project organizes citizens to be actively involved in the decision-making processes about local issues and public resources, and to claim their right to the provision of quality services. Duty bearers are supported to be responsible and accountable, thereby improving public services with a focus on the water and sanitation sector.
The project interventions are oriented to support the capacity development of local actors from government, community and private sector on planning, management and maintenance of water and sanitation infrastructure. During its 9 years of implementation, the project developed several innovative tools now used by local actors helping them assuming their roles and responsibilities to deliver quality water and sanitation services.
