About The Role

The Helvetas program in Bangladesh covers a wide range of sectors. In Cox Bazar, Helvetas and its partners have been engaged in the Rohingya crisis response since 2017. To strengthen the team on the ground, Helvetas is looking for a Business Development and Communications Volunteer to support the team with business development and communication efforts. The Volunteer will explore potential funding opportunities and support the Regional Humanitarian Coordinator in developing and writing proposals based on donor requirements. Thematic areas of focus include livelihood, nutrition, skills development, women and youth empowerment, WASH, disaster risk reduction and community development programs for emergency and development context. Additional duties may include meeting with donors and presenting Helvetas to potential clients and donors as well providing communication material from the field for international communications. S/he will work closely with program coordinator and project managers in the Helvetas Bangladesh country office.

Your Main Tasks

  • In coordination with the Helvetas Humanitarian Coordinator and Country Director identify relevant opportunities, gather early intelligence on new funding opportunities.

  • Organize the proposal process through all phases and support submission of high-quality proposals.

  • Conduct research on possible partners, client priorities, current programming and other topics related to specific proposals.

  • Establish proposal work plan, priorities and target dates for all proposal inputs.

  • Organize proposal development meetings, coordinate with consultants, technical and finance teams to collect cost and technical proposal inputs.

  • Jointly with the management develop teaming strategies and identify consortium partners to submit joint proposals.

  • Support internal capacity development of Helvetas’ colleagues in English skills and proposal writing abilities.

  • Support national and international communication and marketing teams of Helvetas by collecting and writing stories, taking pictures, videos, etc.

  • In cooperation with head or US office provide information for media.

  • Support field trips for visitors and donors.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in social science, international development or project acquisition/fundraising or a similar field.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills and attention to detail.

  • Good understanding of different humanitarian and aid sectors and projects.

  • Good understanding of emergency contexts.

  • High motivation and commitment to work in a humanitarian environment.

  • Ability to be proactive, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.

  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Experience in working with non-governmental organizations is preferable.

  • Experience in international development managing donor proposal development efforts is an asset.
